LI_ProcessStep
description
Create a paper map using traditional cartographic processes.
rationale
Paper maps were the primary medium used to portray the location and spatial relationships of geographic information during this time period.
processStep
LI_ProcessStep
description
Individual paper maps are scanned to create a digital image of the map.
rationale
The digital image of the paper map can be viewed on a computer monitor or printed.
processStep
LI_ProcessStep
description
The digital image file is opened in a graphics editing program to identify and correct any non-map artifacts recorded during the scanning process.
rationale
During the scanning process, non-map artifacts may be recorded in the digital image file. Non-map artifacts can include unwanted material on the map, fold marks on map, and fibers on the scanning device. These non-map artifacts are removed to improve the visual quality of the digital image file.
